Cam L. Garner was formerly Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Dura Pharmaceuticals, which he grew from $2 million to over $300 million in sales and subsequently sold to Elan in November 2000 for $1.8 billion. Mr. Garner has over 25 years of diverse experience in the healthcare industry ranging from diagnostics and devices to pharmaceuticals. He was part of the senior management team that built Hybritech. In 1998, he co-founded and served as Chairman of DJ Pharma, which was sold for over $200 million to Biovail in 2000. Mr. Garner co-founded and serves as Chairman of Xcel Pharmaceuticals. Additionally, he is Chairman of Favrille and serves on the boards of CancerVax, Pharmion, SkinMedica, and Somaxon Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Garner earned his M.B.A. from Baldwin-Wallace College and his B.A. in Biology from Virginia Wesleyan. David Hale currently serves as managing partner of Hale Bioventures. Previously he was President and CEO of CancerVax. Prior to that he was President and CEO of Women First HealthCare from 1998 to 2000. Mr. Hale served from 1987 to 1997 as Chairman, President, and CEO of Gensia, which merged with SICOR to become Gensia Sicor (now Sicor, Inc.), and he was founder and Chairman of Viagene from 1987 until its acquisition by Chiron in 1994. Previously, he was Senior Vice President, Marketing and Business Development at Hybritech where he became Chief Operating Officer in late 1982, President in 1983, and CEO in 1986, when Hybritech was acquired by Eli Lilly and Co. Prior to joining Hybritech, Mr. Hale was Vice President and General Manager of BBL Microbiology Systems, a division of Becton, Dickinson & Co. From 1971 to 1980 he held various marketing and sales management positions with Ortho Pharmaceutical Corporation, a division of Johnson & Johnson, including Director of Marketing and Director of Product Management. Mr. Hale currently serves on the Board of Directors of Santarus, Metabasis Therapeutics, Xcel Pharmaceuticals, and as Chairman of the Board of LMA North America and Somaxon Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Hale also serves on the Board of Directors of BIOCOM/San Diego, the San Diego Economic Development Corporation, Children's Hospital of San Diego, and the Francis W. Parker School. He is a founder of the UCSD CONNECT Program in Technology and Entrepreneurship. Mr. Hale received his B.A. in biology and chemistry from Jacksonville State University. Bret Megargel currently serves as Vice President of Business Development and co-founder of Zogenix Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a private pharmaceutical development company. Prior to the founding of Zogenix, Mr. Megargel served as a Venture Partner for Windamere Venture Partners, from 1999 - 2002. During this time he served as Vice President of Business Development for Avera Pharmaceuticals, MD Edge, Inc. and Converge Medical, Inc. Mr. Megargel was also a co-founder of DexCom, Inc. Mr. Megargel holds a B.A. in Economics from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Lauren Otsuki currently serves as the Sr. Vice President of Commercial Development at Kanisa Pharmaceuticals, an oncology drug development company. Prior to joining Kanisa, Ms. Otsuki was a founder and Senior Vice President of Operations at NovaCardia, a cardiovascular biopharma company which was acquired by Merck in September 2007. From 1999 - 2002, she was a founder and Chief Operating Officer of DexCom, Inc. a diabetes device company and prior to 1999 held several executive level management positions including Vice President of Operations and Vice President of International at Quidel Corporation, a medical diagnostics company. She received her B.S. in Biochemistry and M.S. in Food Biochemistry from the University of California, Davis. Ellen Preston formerly worked as an independent strategic marketing, communications, and sales consultant. Previously, she was Vice President of Marketing at Biopsys Medical from the company's IPO through its notably successful sale and then Vice President of Marketing at Amira Medical preparing for launch of the At Last blood glucose monitor. Prior to these experiences with start-up companies, Ms. Preston was with Johnson & Johnson for 15 years in a variety of marketing and sales positions at Ethicon and Vistakon. In her years at Vistakon, she worked on the US launch of Acuvue Disposable Contact Lenses, with her final fours years as National Sales Manager. Ms. Preston holds a degree in Business from Arizona State University. David Socks currently serves as Vice President of Business Development for Cadence Pharmaceuticals, Inc. From 2000 to 2004, Mr. Socks served as a Venture Partner at Windamere Venture Partners where he primarily focused on in-licensing to drive the formation of several new specialty pharmaceutical companies. While at Windamere, he also served as Vice President of Business Development for Kanisa Pharmaceuticals and Vice President of Finance for CelTor Biosystems.
